The Spencer Wife of Thomas Hill

"Ann Spencer married (1) at Hartford, 25 January 1704/5, Thomas Hill, born 13 January 1681/2, died 1707; two children; married (2) at Hartford, 15 November 1710, Edward Foster, and settled in Suffield. She could conceivably have been a younger child of Thomas (Spencer, … of Suffield; or the child born to (Thomas's daughter) Esther in 1683; or identical with Hannah (daughter of Jared, son of the first Thomas). The names Hannah and Ann were sometimes used interchangeably, though in other cases they were so little confused that both names were given to daughters in the same family. However, it is to be noted that this Hannah was so named in her birth record and in her father's will also, making it less likely that she was ever called Ann."

NOTE: The fact that Gerrard (Jared) Spencer Senior was one of the appraisers of the estate of Thomas Hill (Manwaring, 2:78) would seem to make it more likely that she was his daughter. - --jaques1724 21:54, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
