  3.   Source:Hall, David Brainerd. Halls of New England, Genealogical and Biographical, p. 301, says that Thomas Hall, m. (3) 16 Apr 1747 "Elizabeth, dau. of Eleazar Downs [sic], of Charlestown, and widow of Barnabas Davis". Source:Dowse, William Bradford Homer. Lawrence Dowse of Legbourne, England, His Ancestors, Descendants and Connections in England, Massachusetts and Ireland, p. 167, says Elizabeth Dowse, d/o Eleazer Dowse and Mary Edmunds, did marry ("about 1718") Barnabas Davis, and she died "probably in Charlestown, between 20 May and 16 July 1743", while Barnabas died "probably in Charlestown, about 1767". The heavy use of probably and about by the second source accurately reflects the fact that the mentioned events are not found in Charlestown records so the basis for the mentioned dates is unknown.

The Dowse genealogy gives much primary evidence on Eleazer, but little on his daughter Elizabeth. What is known is that Elizabeth Dowse married Barnabas Davis, which is clearly indicated by multiple probate documents for Eleazer Dowse. Distribution of his estate on 21 May 1742 was assented to by Barnabas Davis. This seems to be the latest evidence presented of Barnabas Davis living. Charlestown records record the births of several children to Barnabas and Elizabeth Davis, the last in 1740. No documents are quoted that mention or justify the 1743 or 1767 dates above, either of which would, if true, invalidate the Hall Genealogy's identification of Elizabeth (Dowse) Davis as Thomas Hall's 3rd wife. On the other hand, without the assertion of Elizabeth's death in 1743, and Barnabas living until 1767, this would seem to be a plausible identification.

Genealogies and Estates of Charlestown, Massachusetts, 1629-1818, p. 281, provides a discussion of the estate of the Barnabas Davis in question: "Estate.—Taxed 1727-1758. Barnabas Davis appears to have been taxed as late as 1758 and executed property transactions as late as 1765. Administration on his (apparently intestate) estate was granted 29 December 1767, which would seem highly unlikely, with as many as eight surviving children, had he died prior to 16 April 1747 when Deacon Thomas Hall of Medford married one Elizabeth Davis of Charlestown. A review of the Davis families then in Charlestown, as given by Mr. Wyman, fails to find a suitable Elizabeth Davis, maiden or widow, who would have been available to marry Deacon Hall. Elizabeth3 Davis, daughter of Zechariah2 was baptized 24 September 1721. Since she was forty years Deacon Hall's junior, she is not a likely candidate.
