BARKER, Priscilla, wid., and Dr. Thomas Emery of Kittery, int. July 8, 1738.

  2.   Note: Source:Shedd, Frank Edson. Daniel Shed Genealogy : Ancestry and Descendants of Daniel Shed of Braintree, Massachusetts, 1327-1920, p. 60, identifies the husband as "Dr. Thomas Emery of Kittery and Biddeford, Me., b. in Kittery 2 Dec 1706, son of James and Margaret (Hitchcock) Emery" with children James b. 22 Nov 1738, Nathan b. abt 1741, Joshua bp. 19 Feb 1743/4, Ebenezer bp 15 Jun 1746, and Lois bp 14 May 1749. While it appears Priscilla married a Thomas Emery, it is not clear that this is the correct Thomas Emery.

Source:Ridlon, Gideon T. Saco Valley Settlements and Families (1894), Vol. 2, p. 679 covers the family of Thomas Emery, indicating only one wife, Susanna Hill, and giving all the mentioned children to that couple. Also, see: Source:Emery, Rufus. Genealogical Records of Descendants of John and Anthony Emery, of Newbury, Massachusetts, 1590-1890, p. 315; Source:Stackpole, Everett Schermerhorn. Old Kittery and Her Families, p. 366)

Source:New England Historical and Genealogical Register, "Vital Records of Saco and Biddeford, Me.", Vol.71, p. 129 has the marriage of Thomas Emery to Susannah Hill in 1731.

Source:Maine Historical and Genealogical Recorder (S.M. Watson), "Records of First Congregational Church in Beddeford" has several pertinent entries:
*Vol. 6, p. 336 baptism of Joshua 19 Feb 1743/4 naming his mother as Susanna.
*Vol. 6, p. 338 baptism of Ebenezer 22 Jun 1746 naming his mother as Susanna.
*Vol. 6, p. 495 baptism of Thomas 15 Mar 1752 naming his mother as Susanna.
*Vol. 6, p. 499 baptism of Nathaniel 20 Jul 1755 naming his mother as Susanna.
*Vol. 7, p. 11 baptism of Susanna 18 Mar 1759 naming her mother as Susanna.

So, in summary, Shedd's identification seems at odds with the prevailing literature, and multiple primary records suggest Thomas was still married to Susanna at and after the time of his alleged married to Priscilla Barker.
