  2. The marriage record describes Betsey as "of Warwick", but no Wells family is listed in Warwick in the 1790 or 1800 census. Allred offers nothing about Betsey except her death date and age at death (at 56 in 1838, so born about 1782). There is a Betsey Wells of Greenfield b. 7 Nov 1781 who looks like a good candidate, but Sheldon, Vol. 2, p. 365, says she married Justin Bull. Oddly Sheldon says they published 30 Nov 1809, but an incomplete intention dated 30 Nov 1813 is found in Greenfield VRs (in the published version as "Purtin Bull", but indexed as Justin Bull), and a marriage is found in Vermont in 1815. Amidst all this confusion, there seems to be no census record of this family, and the only child of the 5 found (1810-1823 in Shelburne p. 39) that lived past 1839, appears to have gone insane, as Sheldon says happened to the father. So no evidence has been found to confirm Sheldon's identification.
