↑ Since the record cited is a transcription of the original, the chance of transcription error is ever present. A marriage in 1828 would be unusually late for a man born in 1784, whereas 1808 would be pretty typical. The births of no children can be found in New Hampshire birth records, but the death record of daughter Susan Decker, b. about 1810, names parents as Samuel and Mary Ridout. The 1810 census appears to show a married man with a young girl and a young boy in the household (plus what could be a laborer or younger brother). Thus various sources (e.g., Source:Lovejoy, Clarence Earle. Lovejoy Genealogy, with Biographies and History, 1460-1930) suggesting they married 28 Mar 1808 may actually be the correct reading of the marriage record. To be fair, all these sources are lacking in evidence, and nothing found rules out two wives, so possibly Samuel may have had one wife Mary before 1810, and married for the second time Mary Lovejoy in 1828? Further evidence is needed.
