↑ The format of the family register in the Sunderland records apparently confused the compiler of the vital records. It is headed "Samuel Gunns family" and starts with the birth date of the father (i.e., Samuel Jr.) and mother (Samuel Jr.'s wife Chloe), but the vital records list both this Samuel and Chloe as children of Samuel even though there is no evidence of that. In fact, Chloe born 1785 is the wife of the Samuel born 1784 and her maiden name is not even Gunn. Samuel Jr.'s father is Samuel, but that is not documented in the Sunderland record here, copy it is shown by the guardian bonds found in the father's probate file.
