- ↑ There is an interesting mortgage in Cheshire Vol. 141, p. 513 where in 1840 Asaph Butterfield morgtgages his property to "Asa Alexander, Samuel Goss, Isaac P. Alexander, Asahel H. Bennett, Henry Kingman, Abel Hammond, Logan Willard all of said Winchester and Jedeidah Cooper of Swanzey in said County of Cheshre and John Goodnow of Boston". Such an eclectic mix of people on a mortgage might indicate buying their rights in an estate, and hence may contain a clue to the identity of Samuel's second wife, depending on when he remarried? However, superficial searching hasn't yielded any obvious connection.
