The date of alleged marriage to the first wife, 20 July 1681, is a misreading of the date of the second marriage, 20 July 1687, to Elizabeth Sherman, dau. of Rev. John. That this later date is correct so far as the year is concerned is proved by the marriage bond of "Samuel Gaskell in the County of Essex Gent and Elizabeth Sherman of Watertown Spinster," which was dated 26 July if correctly read [New Eng. Hist. and Gen. Register, 64-189].
