Mary Colby's affidavit, dated 25 Feb 1847, states she "was married to the said Samuel Colby at West Point on the eighteenth day of May seventeen hundred and eighty two, where he was stationed, after our marriage he served in the army about thirteen months and was discharged in Jun 1783 I think. We were married by the Rev'd Enos Hitchcock a Chaplain in the army, whose original certificate we have always kept, and which is hereunto annexed as proof of our marriage, it being the only evidence that can now be pr[ovided?]..."
