Speculative Marriage

There is no direct evidence for this marriage, but if Robert married Rachel in 1763 (speculated but not proven) when he was close to 40 then it is likely he had a previous wife. He had land at least as early as 1747, so presumably had sufficient wealth to support a family. The number of children who had married and/or reached adulthood by the time Robert wrote his will suggests that some were born prior to 1763.
