"There were only two men by the name of Sanford in Boston of the right age who could have married the widow Scottow. John Sanford {1631, Boston} left Boston for Rhode Island in 1638, died in 1653 and at the time of his death was married to his second wife, Bridget (Hutchinson) Sanford [GMB 3:1626-29], so he cannot have married the widow Scottow. Richard Sanford {1640, Boston} had wife Margery who died at Boston in 1640 [NEHGR 2:400], and thus was available to make this marriage. He was aged 56 in 1650 [Aspinwall 374] and so was about the same age as Thomasine."
