"Richard1 Church … married in England, Anne _____, … A date of birth and line of ancestry were assigned to him in a book on the Church family, also his alleged marriage at Braintree, 18 May 1627, to Anne Marsh. These particulars were purveyed to the author of the book by an English 'genealogist,' and were exposed as not authentic by J. Gardner Bartlett, who pointed out that the extant registers of Braintree do not begin until 1660. There are discrepancies and extreme improbabilities in the ancestral line, and the date of birth assigned to Richard would make him but seventeen at marriage."

The dates of births of their children, as given in Simeon Church of Chester, … are also suspect. See Erroneous Pedigrees for the complete Bartlett review.
