I am writing in th ehope that someone will know more about the folks mentioned in this court case. The incident accoured in Greene County, Tn.

Reuben Hays is my fifth Great Grandfather. As far as I knw I am not directly related to anyone else in the case.

Wednesday 28th April 1813 The State, Reuben Hays, (Junr. ?) Vs. Issac Baker, Junr. Indictment for Assault and Battery Commited on prosecutor. This day came as well the solicitor for the County as the defendant in this proper person and the defendant being charged in the Bill of Incident for plea says that he is guilty in manner and form as charges against him is alleged and puts himself upon the mercy of the court. Therefore it is ___ by the court that the defendant for such offense make his fine by the payment of one dollar, pay the court costs of this prosecution of Court the ensuing evening, and then to remain in custody of the Sheriff of this County until the fine costs aforesaid are paid. Witnesses attendance proven ___ in the above prosecution courts: Reuben Hays three days attendance John Crum three days attendance James Roberts three days attendance

In Captain Thomas Wilson's District Tax List of 1813 are listed the following , so we know they were aquainted other than in court. Issac Baker, Sr. Issac Baker, Jr. Jacob Baker John Crum is lsited as Deceased Reuben Hays

If anyone has information which they think might be interesting or helpful please email me direct as I don't check this list often. Carla

Post Reply | Mark Unread Report Abuse Print Message Carla--If you haven't found your Reuben Hays ancestors yet, you might want to check this out: In Greene Co. TN, a Reuben Henry Hays (1880-1949). Son of Charles Neil Hays (1845-1926)--son of Charles Hays (1800-1874) and Elizabeth Neil--son of Robert Hays (1770-1840) and Jane Collier. (Historic Greene Co., TN and its People 1783-1992)

Considering that both are of Greene Co, and with the old naming patterns, your Reuben could have been related to this one. Best wishes, Betty

Post Reply | Mark Unread Report Abuse Print Message Reuben Hays married Mary Polley Carter on October 22, 1812 in Greene County, Tennessee. William Moyers signed their marriage license. They had atleast three male children., 2 known to be William b. 1814 and John b. 1818. Polley Hays is then found marrying Hiram Fann January 26, 1823 also in Greene County. Their children are Isaac, Talitha, Nancy, Phillip, Moses, Mary, Hiram Jr., Rachel, and George Fann all born in Greene County. They remain there until after 1830 when they relocate to McLeansboro, Hamilton County, Illinois. The Hays boys marry Townsend sisters and some the Fann children marry some of the Foster children once in Illinois. The Fosters and Fanns travelled from Greene County, Tn. to Illinois together.

I am seeking any information on these families. Especially the parentage of Reuben Hays or any information about his death, their divorce , or what became of him. All help is greatly appreciated. As always I am willing to share all I have on these families.

Best Regards, Carla D. Krehbiel
