    129. "ELIZABETH ROOSE of Hartford," probably the Elizabeth Rose b. at Wethersfield, Conn., 15 April 1665. Donald Lines Jacobus, in Hale, House and Related Families, states that this woman married Joshua Robbins (p. 803), but the evidence is principally circumstantial, and not overwhelming. Joshua Robbins did marry an Elizabeth, but the bride's surname is missing in the marriage record. [Clerks were more interested in showing that nine full months passed before the birth of the eldest child than in the surname of the bride—Ed.] The main evidence adduced is similarity of names of children, and the fact that Elizabeth Rose's father Daniel was a witness to a legal document involving Joshua Robbins as one of the principal parties. In the marriage record of Obadiah Coolidge, there is a surname, Roose, a common variant for Rose. Elizabeth, daughter of Daniel, is the only member of the Rose family of Connecticut who is not firmly placed. The strongest evidence for the identification, however, is the location of the marriage. Elizabeth's mother was Elizabeth Goodrich, and most of her brothers and sisters—Elizabeth Rose's aunts and uncles—had moved to Sudbury in the years just before the marriage of Obadiah Coolidge in that town. It would not be surprising, then, to find that Elizabeth Rose, while visiting relatives in Sudbury, has met a young man whom she would marry some time later. Elizabeth, wife of Obadiah Coolidge, d. before 6 Nov. 1732."
