Noah was the son of Noah Mayo and Hope Rich who married in 1764. After Noah's mother died, his father married in 1790 Martha Rich, the widow of Josiah Rich, and 2 years later, in 1792, the younger Noah married his step-sister Hope Rich. Thus there were two successive generations of Noah Mayos who married women named Hope Rich.
