Nathaniel Gary Jr. m. Pomfret [date blank] Mary Allen.
[Note: the marriage record in Barbour's records of Pomfret for Nathaniel Gary and Mary Allen is 11 Feb 1712/13. This source says 4 Feb 1712/13 is the marriage of Nathaniel, Sr., to Mary (Fairbanks) Allen, and has no date for the marriage of Nathaniel, Jr., to the daughter Mary Allen. Since Nathaniel, Sr.'s wife Ann died Dec 1712, this would be a very short mourning period, so there are reasons to question Brainerd's interpretation. Did he assign the date to the wrong couple? Did one marry 4 Feb and the other marry 11 Feb? Further, Brainerd shows the first son of Nathaniel Jr. and Mary Jr. to be William b. 3 Nov 1713. This would suggest he did give the date to the wrong couple, except for the following: the births of the children attributed to Nathaniel Jr. are found in Ashford under surname GRAY with parents Nathaniel and SARAH. It might be worth pointing out that having a son William in 1713 would be unlikely for a mother b. 1698.]

  2.   Ironically, Source:Fairbanks, Lorenzo Sayles. Genealogy of the Fairbanks Family in America, 1633-1897,p. 46, attributes the children the Gary Genealogy gives to this couple (William, Benjamin, Sarah, Joseph and Ann) to the second marriage of the father, Nathaniel Sr., and Mary (Fairbanks) Allen. In addition to the above caveat that the births are recorded to Nathaniel and Sarah, they also duplicate some names from Nathaniel Sr.'s first marriage.
