  2. Source:Bolton, Ethel Stanwood. Some Descendants of John Moore of Sudbury, Mass, p. 58:117, reports that Mary Moore married Matthew Gibbs of Framingham, and d. 26 Sep 1705, whereupon her sister Elizabeth became his second wife. This is reported in other sources as well, but appears to be improbable, caused by an erroneous record. There is a marriage record in Sudbury in 1678 of "Math. Gibs" to Mary Moore, and Matthew's widow Elizabeth died in Framingham in 1733/34. However the children's birth are recorded with Elizabeth as the mother in 1680, 1682, 1684, and 1687. Also, no record of the death of Mary, nor the marriage to Elizabeth seems to appear when searching the expected places. Not to mention that it would have been illegal to marry a wife's sister at the time. To say, the least, this is a very confused situation. One would suspect that Matthew married Elizabeth and she was his only wife, and that possibly, Mary was named in the marriage record due to confusion with Matthew's mother, Mary. This is supported by the fact that John and Ann Moore named a second daughter Maria in 1670/71, suggesting their first daughter Mary died young. This is additionally supported by the division of the estate of John Moore which includes no share for Mary or any heirs of Mary. If Bolton's story was true, then the Gibbs children would have been due one share in right of their mother Mary, and Elizabeth would have been due her share. Instead, only Elizabeth is named.
