[Note: this is discussed on Madison's previous wife's page. Interpreting this census is very difficult. If this is actually Nelson why doesn't Nelson show up in other census records, and why are two of Madison's children living in the household? If this is actually Madison, the age is off by 2 years, which combined with the name error would indicate a certain sloppiness. So can we trust this source enough to propose a new marriage? The wife's name is close in sound (Rowena instead of Luana), the age is only one year different (1815 versus 1816), and the birth place is New York versus Vermont (which share a border). No other sign of Rowena (death of Luana, marriage record, or death of Rowena before Madison's 1876 marriage) has been located. More research is needed.
