This may Certify that Lemuel Newton & Susannah Goodell were Joined by me in Marriage Jan'ry ye 17: 1787 by me Caleb Rich. [Also, previous page: Marriage is intended between Lemuel Newton & Susannah Goodell Both of Warwick October 12: 1786.]
↑Allred, doesn't show this marriage under surname Newton, but on p. 118 under GOODELL, shows the husband as Samuel Newton with no identifying information. Differentiating between Samuel and Lemuel in colonial handwriting can be difficult, and the intentions are somewhat ambiguous, but the marriage record itself is clearly Lemuel, not Samuel. The husband has not been identified, and doesn't seem to be mentioned in Source:Leonard, Ermina Newton. Newton Genealogy. There are two Lemuel Newtons in the 1790 census. The one in Hardwick, MA, has a wife Chloe and can be ruled out. Nothing is known of the one in Shoreham, VT.
