- ↑ Lemuel appears married by the 1840 census and Azubah is explicitly listed as his wife in the 1850 census (line 35), and she outlived him per their shared gravestone. No marriage record has been found so far, but it would not be surprising if Azubah was Lemuel's cousin, presumably a spinster at the time, which seemed to be a relatively common practice for second marriages. Azubah Goddard, d/o Nathan Goddard, b. Orange 1784, would match the age at death found on the gravestone. Source:Harms, John Wike. Goddard Book, p. 1178, doesn't even mention a second wife, and p. 1176, shows no information for Azubah, so isn't much help, except that it doesn't contradict this at all. However, Lemuel's widow Azubah's death record (No. 29) gives no information about her origins, so there is absolutely no evidence this speculation is true, either.
