[Intentions of Marriage] Skillins, Josiah with Susannah Winter, Sept. 13, 1755.
There may be some confusion between this family and that of Josiah Skillings and 2nd wife Susanna Noyes? Henley, and most literature for these families (e.g., Sargent and Skillings 8 Generations appears to per a website citation), show both families with John bp. 14 Sep 1777, Samuel bp. 31 Jan 1779, James bp. 1780. This family also contains Nathaniel bp. 1782. Given the marriage above in 1755, these dates represent an unexplained gap of over 20 years until the oldest of these children, which seems improbable. The fact that the two sons named John show different wives, it is possible that both families actually had distinct children, but it appears that one baptismal date is being applied to both, simply because the parents are named Josiah and Susanna. The lack of differentiating information and/or explanation of this confusing data suggests more research is needed to draw any conclusions in which we can have confidence.
