History of the Town of Douglas (Massachusetts) from the Earliest Period to the Close of 1878, p. 181, lists Joseph's second wife as Rachel Richardson, but that is confusion with Joseph Jr.'s wife Rachel Jephardson. The name of their six children give the mother as Susannah, including all 4 of those listed by Emerson.
