"The birth of Joseph Parsons, Jr. is not recorded. Henry Parsons in his Parsons Family (v. 1 [New York, 1912]; v. 2 [New Haven, Conn., 1920]) gives Joseph's birth as 1 Nov. 1647 and his brother Benjamin's as 22 Jan. 1649. These births are NOT recorded and these dates cannot be verified. They should not, therefore, be used. It appears that Joseph Parsons left Springfield temporarily for about two years, from the spring of 1647 to early in the year 1649, for what reason is not known. … This two-year absence from Springfield would explain why the births of Joseph's two eldest children, Joseph and Benjamin, are not found on record there. It seems likely he removed to Connecticut, either to Hartford, where his wife's parents were living, or to Windsor. …"

  3. The children Esther and Benjamin, said by Henry Parsons to have been born and died 11 September 1668, are not mentioned in Trumbull's genealogies, Gerald Parsons' 1994 article in the NEHGR, nor in the published Northampton vital records. Absent any record evidence, their existence is questionable, but there is no genealogical impact either way.
