It seems almost certain that the marriage record cited represents Joseph's second marriage, even though it was not mentioned in History of the Brigham Family, Vol. 1. As he was called Joseph Jr. in his first marriage in 1766, and as his father did not die until July 1786, one would expect him still to be referred to as Joseph Jr. at the time of this marriage.

History of the Brigham Family, Vol. 2 does add a correction showing this marriage. It says on p. 74 that "He m. (2) 20 Apr., 1786, the widow, Anna Pike, whose maiden name is unknown...". It is reasonable to assume she was a widow, but unknown how it was determined, except by assumption. Her maiden name is stated to be unknown and there was no indication given of who her first husband would have been.

Additional information given on p. 74 states that she survived Joseph and m. (3) 1812 James Stone of Northborough. Northborough records show Anna, the widow of James, dying in 1845 age 82+, so born about 1762. A birth in 1762 suggests that the marriage in 1786 to Joseph Brigham could very well have been her first, the marriage to James Stone her second? There is a sizeable representation of Pikes in Newbury and birth is found there of one Anne, d. Joshua and Anne, Jan. 3, 1759[/60], but there is no obvious connection of this Anne Pike to the Anna Pike who married Joseph Brigham in Marlborough.
