  2. The Lenox births contain an embedded gap of 10 years with no children (e.g., see town copy). The Ashfield VRs show the baptism in 1793 of Betsey, David [error, 17 Nov, not 12 Jun like the others], Jonathan, Lois, Lucy, Phinney, and Phoebe. This isn't the original record, rather 7 alphabetized entries, so we can't use it to guess at birth order. Further note that there is no birth or death record found for Phinney (Phineas?), and that the names David, Lois and Jonathan are all given to children born after this baptism (David being reused just a few months afterwards). So either 4 of these children died soon after the baptism, or the date of the baptism has been mistranscribed (1798 instead of 1793 would be after the three births).

Source:Ashfield, Franklin, Massachusetts, United States. Church Records, 1786-1897 (film 902902) is viewable at a Family History Center. Book 1 (1786-1833 contains the following baptisms:
    p. 75: 1793 June 12. Betty, Lucy, Phebe, Lois, Phinney, Jonathan } Children of Jonathan Taylor, jr, and Phebe his wife
    p. 76: 1793 Nov. 17 David Son of Jonathan (ju) & Phebe Taylor
    p. 77: 1795 Dec. 27 ... Lois Daughter of Jonathan & Phebe Taylor
plus baptisms for 3 of the 5 children by Jonathan's second wife. This is sufficient, especially two baptisms for Lois, to show the date of baptism was not a typo, that children were born in the 10-year gap, and the names were reused for latter children.
