Jonathan Butterick & Elisabeth Woolly both of Concord were married by Justice minott December 19 1718.

  2. This marriage date is one month after the birth of their eldest child. The second child was born 18 Apr 1720, suggesting that Samuel's birth could not have been a year later. This leaves three possibilities:
    1. The marriage was a year earlier, Dec 1717, but recorded incorrectly as 1718, possibly because 1718 was the current year when it was recorded. This seems the most likely.
    2. The dates are right. If this so, there should be some record of fines or punishment for improper behavior. Possible, but given that Jonathan became a deacon, and was presumably a man of some character, not expected.
    3. Since Cutter lists his wife as Elizabeth Wood, and the marriage record is for Elizabeth Woolley, perhaps the first wife died as a result of childbirth, and Jonathan remarried quickly to take care of his new infant son. I don't believe this happened and cannot find a likely Elizabeth Wood. This sounds more like an error by Cutter.
