This family group is doubtful.

Neither of the John Tidds who arrived in Massachusetts by 1637 was from the Isle of Wight. The confusion comes in from using the name "Yarmouth." There is a Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight which is off the tip of southern England, but the port which John Tidd, the 19 year old apprentice of Samuel Greenfield sailed out of was "Great Yarmouth" which is and was a major seaport for the north of England. John's apprenticeship papers have been found by Michael Tedd of England and proves that he was "of Norwich" [Norfolk Co, England.]

In 1637 a 19 year old John Tidd landed in Charlestown, having sailed from Great Yarmouth, England (the port of Norwich, Norfolk), on May 12, 1637, as an indentured servant of Samuel Greenfield. The two men soon removed to Salem and later are found living in Exeter, New Hampshire, where on May 12 1643, both men signed a petition to the General Court. John Tidd was still living in Exeter in 1664. No wife or children have been found for him.

The other John Tidd, married to Margaret [who may or may not have been a Greenleaf] brought his family and their descendants remain to this day. His parents have not been proven as yet. He was from Hertford, Hertfordshire Co, England.
