- In the 1870 census, our John Kennedy was a dyer living in the 16th ward of Philadelphia. The only John Kennedy in the 1870 Gopsill's city directory who was a dyer was living at 1303 Hope Street; he was still there (with the same occupation) in 1871. This Eliza Jane Kennedy was living at 1303 Hope Street. That's the only evidence suggesting that she was our John Kennedy's first wife.
