It appears that this couple considered themselves to be married since about 1882^[2], but didn't get formally married until 1914^[1], at which point, Marcena (using the surname Rex) claimed to have been widowed for 15 years^[1]. There does not appear to be a Marcena Rex in the 1900 or 1910 census.
