First wife was named Mary in birth record of son John. 22 March 1670-1 Isaac Stearns and John Eddy are attached regarding a claim by "Ens. John Grout" [i.e., him, not his son] concerning land formerly given to his "father-in-law Thomas Cakebread sometimes of Watertown and now deceased". Ferris says the original claim was made by Ens. John, on behalf of the son John, the only child of the first wife Mary.
