A 64-year-old motorcyclist was killed Thursday night when he was rear-ended by a car driven by a 78-year-old woman on County Road 44 in Lake County.

John Green of Umatilla had been riding a 2015 Kawasaki at 7:05 p.m. when he had slowed to make a left-hand turn at the intersection of County Road 44 and Treasure Island Road, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

His motorcycle was rear-ended by a 2015 Acura driven by Barbara [Fausey] Schmidt of Leesburg.

Green was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Schmidt and a passenger in her car, 79-year-old Kenneth Schmidt also of Leesburg, escaped injury in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
