When John married, his father-in-law, Abiah Whitman, was generous in his gifts of land. The land was not in Weymouth, however, but in the area that became Easton, Massachusetts, southwest of Braintree. Abiah was one of the largest owners of land in the so-called “North Purchase of Taunton,” which comprises the present towns of Easton, Norton, and Mansfield, Massachusetts.

Even though there is no marriage record for John Daily and Mary Whitman, the union is well documented in records of her family and in land records.
