Wife's Identity

It is possible that Helena's surname Thomas was a previous married name. It has also been suggested that some of the earlier Beckstead children were actually Helena's children from her previous marriage.

    1773 March 28 "To be published John Bedstead & Helena Thomas both in the County of Albany. N B This couple were not married by me, but had a Certificate of Publishment."

    1774 Feb. 28 "Married John Bedstead & Hele[na] Thomas, who were published in March last."
