Quoting a letter from "Sylvester Judd, Esq., of Northampton" (author of History of Hadley): "It appears that John Kilborn, of Springfield, and Prudence Baker of Northampton, were published in April, 1720; but for some reason they were not married. She married John Alvord, in August, 1721. She was born in 1689, and was, of course, an 'old maid' in 1720. From her age and other circumstances, I conclude that the John Kilborn who courted Prudence Baker was the same John Kilborn who married Mercy Day after a short courtship."

    MARRIAGES [From Northampton Town Records]
Aug. 4, 1720 or 21. John Alvord and Prudence Baker.
[The reason for the uncertainty in year is not explained. Is it because of ambiguous placement or ordering of the record, or was the author fooled by the 1720 intentions of John Kilborn? This record does not seem to be in the Corbin copy of Northampton Vital Records.]
