Jessiah and Sarah Ferree's closest store or mill was seven miles away, and their closest neighbors, Webster and Martha (Warnick) Hannaman had a daughter named Elizabeth Virginia who would become my grandmother. Jessiah and Sarah had six children.

The first child died in infancy, James F. Ferree (15 July 1854 to 21 July 1854). His first name would be used again. The second was my grandfather, Emory Randolph Ferree (11 December 1855 to 14 April 1931). The third child was Franklin David (Davey) Ferree (10 August 1857 to 10 April 1939). The fourth child was the second James, James (Jim) W. Ferree (22 December 1859 to ? ). The fifth was the only daughter, and she also died in infancy, Margarete Harriet Ferree (26 April 1861 to 29 April 1861). The last was John Wesley (J.W.) Ferree (10 September 1863 to 16 December 1945 ).

Sarah committed suicide by a gunshot to the head at the age of 54. Jessiah remarried a little over a year later (21 March 1879) at the age of 60. He married Nancy J. Barnes, the daughter of Nathan and Matilda (Seal) Barnes. This marriage was short lived. They separated and Nancy died in 1881.

Emory, being the oldest living child, inherited his parents' home.
