- ↑ Marriage is shown by Source:The descendants of Nathaniel Clarke and his wife Elizabeth Somerby of Newbury, Massachusetts : a history of ten generations, 1642-1902, p. 49, a deed dated 11 Mar 1716/17 by "James Wise ... & Elizabeth Clark, alias Elizabeth Wise my now wife", giving to Nathaniel Clark all rights in "ye Estate of Nathaniel Clark late of Newberry deceased ... ye former Husband of ye s'd Elizabeth and ffather of s'd Nathaniel Clark". On 24 Jul 1693, when she was granted administration on her first husband's estate, she was still "Elizabeth Clarke relict Widowe of Said Nathaniel" (ibid, p. 45). Source:Vital records of Newbury, Massachusetts, to the end of the year 1849, p. 1:548, gives the birth "Wise, Alexander, s. James and Elisabeth, Jan. 10, 1700-1701", so marriage occurred sometime in the interval between those dates.
