World Family Tree Download -- v51t2403.FTWS2 from Michael Peacock identifies the father of James Smith, spouse of Jane Langdale as Edward Smith. However, using the birth date and location for this James Smith in the LDS IGI on-line database the father is give as James. This couple is tentatively identified as the parents of James Smith who later came to the US and Canada, and married Jane Langdale. This attribution is not supported by the following: SMITHSS3, James, who for many years was one of Winnebago County's most respected and representative men, was born in England, a son of Edward Smith. When the later died, he had 54 grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, the family being a very prolific one. On the day that King George IV died [King George IV died on June 26, 1830 according to the Encyclopedia Britanica web site], James Smith set sail from London, England for New York, in the year 1830, and the voyage took six weeks. From New York City he made his way to Dearborn County, Ind., and this trip also took six weeks. Subsequently he went to Canada, where he remained until 1863, but in that year came to Winnebago County, ILL. and for a year lived at Rockford. In 1864 he bought 100 acres of land in Seward Township, and operated it until 1875, in that year retiring ot the village of Winnebago, where he lived until his death on April 7, 1885, when he was 87 years old.
