Children
1900 Census
In 1900 James A (age 36, born Feb 1864) and Hattie M (age 29, born Apr 1871) Murray are living in Brunswick, Maine with daughter Mabel (age 7, born Dec 1892). They have been married for 8 years, and Mabel is their only child. James Murray was born in New York, although his parents were born in Canada (English-speaking Canada). James is a painter, and was unemployed for 3 months in the past year. The family rents their home. For source citation see Person:James Murray (61).
1910 Census
In 1910, the Murray family lives in Bath, Maine at 245 North Street. James A (age 47), Harriet L (age 39), and Mabel G (age 17) are living with Harriet's mother, Mrs. Alpheus J Dodge. The census record is unclear whether the other household member is Harriet's mother or father, but since Alpheus dies in 1910 and Margaret Dodge lives until 1915, one can presume the references to her as "mother in law" to James A Murray are accurate. Margaret is 74, widowed and is noted as having four children, all living (although we know from other records that she had seven children). Unlike the 1900 census, this census reports that James' father was born in New York and his mother born in the United States. James A Murray is a painter for the Iron Works and rents his home.S1
