James Howe m. abt. 1710 Margaret Gates.
[It is not explained by Hudson how he knows the wife's maiden name is Gates. Margaret is not listed in the section on the Gates family, p. 366, but there is a Simon Gates who m. Margaret --- and had 8 children (only one named is Simon) who lived in Cambridge and Lancaster before coming to Marlborough in 1693. And Source:Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records to the Year of 1850, 284, does show "Gates, Margaret, d. of Simon and Margaret, Aug. 13, 1689" which looks like a reasonable candidate if we believe Hudson regarding her maiden name.

Presumably the estimated marriage date of about 1710 is based on the birth of their son James 4 Jan 1711/12 (see Source:Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. Vital Records of Marlborough, Massachusetts, to the End of the Year 1849, p. 100).]
