  3. The americanancestors.org database contains images of the two records in the Hingham book. Clearly, the compilation of Peter Hobart's marriages occurred after the fact, presumably by copying from his diary. So, the transcription of the Hobart Journal in NEHGR suggests his diary gives the date as 21 or 27. Sometimes, the colonial one looked much like the style seen in Europe, with an exaggerated lip, so that it looks like an upside down V, which could easily be mistaken for a 7. Presumably, the transcriber of the diary, having read the whole work, might have developed enough familiarity with the handwriting to be more accurate? The town record of 30 Dec may represent the date the marriage was reported? In any event, this is all speculative, as all these records would normally be assumed to be highly credible, if they didn't all differ.
