Divorce book: Suttles Cela Oct 1827 McMinn Co Tn. Cela married in 1824 to Henry Suttles, he left her shortly after they married and returned but left again about 12 months past. They have children (number not stated) She believes he now lives in the western part of the state with another woman in open adultery. She wants a divorce and to be restored to her former name Cela Hamrick and to be allowed the privileges of a female sole. Petition includes signatures of 10 persons. Statement by Sealy Suttles that she has just reason to believe that her husband committed adultery with Susana Richards by his confession to her. He left Sealy on 4 November 1826 and moved to Warren Co, he is now living with another women. Statement by Samuel Hewbanks who lived with Sealy and henry the forepart of the winter of 1825 and spring of 1826. Selah stayed in McMinn Co. until sometime in the 1830's.
The Hamrick family webpage( http//homepages:rootsweb.com/~hamricky) indicates that she moved on eventually to Poinsett Ar where she died in 1846 The 1830 McMinn Co census listed the following: Selah Hamrick 00012-011201 (1male 15-20, 2 males 20-30 I female 5-10 1 female 10-15, 1 female 40-50. With a fairly good birth year for Nevill/Nevel of 1813 (listed in his obit) this would imply that William and Henry may have been born prior to 1810. As a separate not, Irene Suttle was married in 1830 to Isaac Woodward in Rutherford Co NC, so I don't know if she was listed in this census or not. The same Isaac shows up not later than 1833 as a business partner for Henry in some of Henry's land acquisitions in the 1830s. The above web site also indicates that Selah had a previous marriage. She may have been married earlier but not as listed (kids overlapping) plus her father's will mentions nothing about any other kids. Henry bouthy a lot of land along the Collins River in Warren Co Tn 1826. It appears to the court that Henry J Suttle a non-resident is dead and having effects in said county (Warren) having made no will application is made by Isaac C Woodward a citizen of Warren Co to have letters of administartion granted to him on the estate. Granted. What happened is that the administrator of Henry's Estate, his son-in-law Issac Wood ward decided to cut all the children out and administer the proceeds of the estate to the grandchildren. Nevell Suttle and others ( not specifcally listed in the court documents but assumed to be the other children) filed suit against Woodward for a cut of the loot.
The last item is the 1850 Warren Co census. Henry household as himself, Emeline (age21) and Bushrod (infant 1) Henry died 31 Dec 1853 Emeline married Jacob Blackburn household in the 1860 census. I don't know if Emeline was a wife, daughter, daughter-in-law,niece, granddaughter.etc.
