Mary SOMERS is the known child of George SOMERS and his probable wife, Rebecca WHITE. It would be uncharacteristic of the time and place if this couple had not had other children, unless Rebecca had become infertile after the birth of Mary. In the 1800 census, the household headed by George SUMMERS, enumerated right next to Thomas WHITE, brother of Rebecca, contained six children under the age of 10. One of these was, clearly, Mary, and I suspect two or three others were also products of the SOMERS-WHITE marriage. So far [2005] I have not been successful in producing any proof to support this theory.

  5. The fact that George Summers was enumerated next to Thomas White in the 1800 census provides further, albeit circumstantial, evidence of his marriage to Thomas' daughter, Rebecca White. Several other White's also appear on the same page.
His census enumeration also included the presence of one slave in the household.
