Attempts to locate George or Sylvia in 1860 have so far failed. Of course, the Civil War occurred. An intriguing record is this record from the 1860 census: Abbott, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, 27 Jul 1860, Dwelling 1390, Family 1302 Franklin D. Arnold, age 28, Carpenter, b. Vt Sylby Arnold, age 34, b. Vt. Harvey Arnold, age 13, b. Wis Francis Arnold (Male), age 3, b. Wis The alignment of ages and birthplaces, and similarities of names (F for Franklin?), is striking. But where are Harvey and Francis in 1870? Is George F the same as Franklin D? Or did Franklin D (who appears to be listed as a soldier here) die and George is a second husband, coincidentally all Arnolds? Or is this an unrelated couple?
