  2. Source:Savage, James, A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, p. 1:126, says Ellis Barron, s. of Ellis, m. Hannah, d. of Timothy Hawkins. Savage gives no date for this marriage but says, "Bond gives the date which I have taken for marriage of her mother with the father of this husband [the date he gives there is 4 Dec 1653 (apparently Savage adjusted for calendar change)] though he [Bond] may be right, and possibly mother and daughter[,] father and son were married on one day, yet it seems less probable."

I find only one marriage records in Source:Watertown records, though it is certainly reasonable to assume the compiler thought two identically appearing records were duplicates, and removed one. I have also seen websites where one marriage is on the date given above, and the other is listed on some other dates such as 4 Dec 1653, or 14 Dec 1658. None of these alternate dates appear supported by the Watertown records and appear to represent nothing more than confusion on the part of the researchers.

Source:Divided we stand : Watertown, Massachusetts, 1630-1680, p. 246, says "Widow Hannah Hawkins and her daughter Hannah married Ellis Barron Sr. and Jr. in a joint ceremony on 14 December 1653." It is not clear what the evidence for this is, but it was made in describing an audit of Watertown marriages, not as part of a family tree. One might wonder if in doing the audit, they went all the way back to the original records?

Source:Pope, Charles Henry. Pioneers of Massachusetts, p. 35, says that Ellis Barron, Sr., m. Hannah, the widow of Timothy Hawkins, Sr. Her will is dated 18 Aug 1683 and mentions a son Timothy Hawkins, and a daughter Hannah Barron, plus grandchildren Benjamin and Benoni Garfield [by her daughter Mehitable (Hawkins) Garfield]. So if she died as Hannah Barron, and had a daughter named Hannah Barron, this at least seems to confirm that both Hannah Hawkins did marry their respective Ellis Barrons, though it sheds no light on the date of these marriages.
