- The death record for Eli says "Single". If he had been married and his wife died, he would have been "Widowed". Source:Croft, Grace Hildy. History and Genealogy of the Milk-Milks Family (440111), p. 35, says Eli died unmarried. The assertion that he had a wife Mary is presumably based on the presence of a woman of similar age living with Eli (along with his mother Alice), e.g., 1850 census, but this appears to be his sister Mary Handy Blossom
