    Miss Maria Gaillard Cortes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Cortes, 4328 Windsor Parkway, will be married to Major Edmund Kirby-Smith at 8:30pm Thursday in the Chapel of the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn.

    The bride-groom-to-be is the son of Dr. and Mrs. R. M. Kirby-Smith of Sewanee.

    Miss Cortes is a former student of the University of Texas and a graduate of SMU. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the Slipper Club and the Junior Art League.

    Major Kirby-Smith attended the University of the South at Sewanee, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and was graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He recently returned from twenty-six months in Oren, Algeria.

    The bride-elect has been serving as a nurse's aide at McCloskey General Hospital.
