Children

The children of Ebenezer and Ruth, except Benjamin, are not recorded, but the surviving ones are listed when the dower of Ebenezer's mother is distributed in 1767 (see Ebenezer's father's probate). Benjamin is called the eldest son, and the others are Robert, James, Josiah, Ruth and Mary, presumably ordered by gender, then by birth within gender. The lack of recording, combined with the general diminishing coverage of this era, means that these children are generally not recognized or considered when trying to solve Converse riddles.

Benjamin is well-documented on his page. Otherwise, the identification of their children is pretty speculative.

Robert is likely to be the Robert Converse who m. 1773 Mary Lamb of Cambridge. He d. Amherst, NH, in 1826, age 91 [gravestone, birth about 1735]. He is said by the History of Amherst, p. 543 to be "of Woburn", and he named a son Ebenezer. The Genealogical and Family History of New Hampshire, p. 3:1077 wants to ignore his clear ties to Woburn and attribute him to Family:Joshua Converse and Rachel Blanchard (1), but that is unlikely and probably incorrect.

James may be the James Converse who m. 1767 Sarah Swan of Cambridge. Appears to have had at least one daughter, named Ruth.

In Source:Johnson, Edward Francis. Notes on the Family of Deacon Edward Convers, Johnson has the wrong Ruth Converse marrying 1757 Ephraim Flagg, b. 1735, to Gershom Flagg and Lydia Waters. That Ruth was quite a bit older and married John Lynde. It seems probable that it was Ebenezer's daughter Ruth that married Ephraim Flagg. Their children in Wilmington included a son named Ebenezer.

Nothing has been discovered that suggests anything for Josiah or Mary.

Children of William Munroe and Mary Cutler: Ruth "(?)" m. Ebenezer Converse of Woburn.
[Obviously this was considered speculative by the author and his basis for suspecting it is unknown as no marriage record or other evidence has been found beyond the fact that Ebenezer's wife was named Ruth.]

  2. Source:Guilford, Joan S. Monroe Book says Ruth m. Ebenezer Stone of Woburn "acc. to the geneal.", while noting the above. It is not clear which genealogy this refers to, but neither Gregory Stone, nor Simon Stone, by J. Gardner Bartlett seem to mention such an Ebenezer. All their Ebenezer Stones are otherwise married. There seems to be no birth record, no death record, no children born to him. Is there such a person?
