Earl and Marie had nine children, 5 sons and 4 daughters. Earl was a farmer and a Trustee of Jackson Township in Allen County, Indiana. Earl's obituary reads, "EARL J. BOWERS DIES; TRUSTEE OF JACKSON TWP. Earl J. Bowers, 59, trustee of Jackson Township, Allen County, died at 6 a.m. Sunday in his home, R. R. 2, Payne, Ohio. He was serving his third year as trustee and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Besancon. He also was engaged in farming. Surviving are his wife, Marie; four daughters, Mrs. Nancy Drewes, Cincinnati; Mrs. Marcia Pyle, Fremont, Ohio; Miss Noreen Bowers, at home; and Mrs. Brenda Hanchar, Waynedale; four sons, Thomas, rural Payne, John, Michael and William, all at home; one brother, Donald, Monroeville; a half sister, Mrs. Mary M. Fracassini, New Haven; a stepsister, Miss Margaret Hahn, New Haven; and three grandchildren. A son, Jerome, was killed in action in Vietnam Aug. 31, 1969. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Louis Catholic Church, Father Edward Keever officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Marquart Funeral Home, Monroeville, after 3 p.m. today. Rosary services will be at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home." Born in Allen County, she was the daughter of the late Anton Herber and Martha Schmidt. She married Earl J. Bowers on June 21, 1941, in Hessen Castle; he passed away on Oct. 17, 1971. She was a homemaker; member of St. Louis Catholic Church Besancon, Harvest House, and Gold Star Mother. Surviving are her sons, Michael A. Bowers, William L. (Cheryl) Bowers and Thomas J. (Pat) Bowers, all of Monroeville; daughters, Nancy A. Drewes of Anna, Ohio, Mrs. Steve (Marcia M.) Pyle of Kendallville and Noreen E. Hilliard of Monroeville; son, John C. (Anita) Bowers of Monroeville; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Jerome E. Bowers, who was killed in Vietnam, in 1969; one daughter, Brenda L. Hanchar, in 2003, two brothers, Robert M. Herber and Ambrose Herber; and two sisters, Blanche J. Herber, in 1981, and Sister Mary Evangelista S.P., in 2006. Prayer service is 9:20 a.m. Monday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church, New Haven, Father Steve Colchin officiating. Visitation is from noon to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Rosary at 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Burial in St. Louis Catholic Church Cemetery, Besancon. Preferred memorials for Masses to the church or to St. Louis Academy and St. Mary of the Woods.
