Stowell Genealogy : A Record of the Descendants of Samuel Stowell, of Hingham, Mass, p. 45, says the wife may be "perhaps dau. of Abraham and Abigail (Parsons) Foster ... or dau. of Caleb and Mary (Sherman) Foster". No daughter named Mary is named in the probate of Abraham which appear to rule out that option. Source:Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Foster Genealogy, p. 133, says Caleb's daughter Mary d. unmarried in 1780, and a death record for Mary Foster "an aged person" on 19 Dec 1780 is found in both Ipswich and Topsfield. How Pierce might have determined this is Caleb's daughter is not explained, but both of Stowell's guesses at least appear wrong. As David was 40 at the time of this marriage, Mary Foster may well have been a widow, and there are several other Mary Fosters of an appropriate age.
