    Last Will and Testament of David Johnson

    will: "In the name of God Amen, I David Johnson of Montgomery County, State of Kentucky being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and disposing memory do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say)--
    First, I give and bequeath and devise unto my beloved wife nancy Johnson so long as she remains my widow or so long as she lives all that tract or parcel of land situated on the waters of Grassylick lying and being in the Montgomery County State of Kentucky and its appurtenances with the exception of that part my mother now has in her possession which part or parcel with its appurtenances, I give and devise to my mother so long as she lives.
    Second, it is my will that David Johnson shall be an equal heir with the rest of my children.
    Third, it is my will and testament that my son Levi Johnson who has at divers of times for sundires of things become indebted to me one hundred and ninety-one dollars fifty cents the same is hereby given and bequeathed unto him as his entire legacy further, it is my will and testament that Levi's children or Thier legal representatives shall receive the sum of sixty five dollars twenty five cents at the death or marriage of my wife which sum is to be made out of the land.
    Fourth, it is my will that Jacob, Thomas and Susannah Johnson have one bed, one cow and four sheep each for which I charge them twenty nine dollars fifty cents each. Also that Jacob is to have the grey horse that is known by the name of his horse for the sum of sixty five dollars which sums are to go out of their several c a g acres.
    Fifth, I give and bequeath unto Andrew Johnson one horse worth fifty dollars & saddle worth fifteen dollars in case the said Andrew lives with my wife until he is eighteen years of age which horse and saddle is to come out of the personal estate of my wife's soeth I give and devise unto John Jacob and Thomas all my land in Montgomery with its appurtenances provided they pay unto the other legatees the sums herein mentioned. That is they are to receive it after the marriage or death of my wife and to pay accordingly whereas I have given and bequeathed the sum of five hundred and eight dollars 22 cents with the exception of Andrew, Levi and his heirs making an average of seventy three dollars two and three fourth cents to the other eight. It is my will that those who have received less than the said average and for their better information I do here severally will the sums which are not stated heretofore David Johnson $99.50 cents, Elizabeth Wilson &71.50 cents, Henrietta Pence, $37, John Johnson $131.83 1/3, Polly Dale $29.50.
    If the said John, Jacob & Thomas Johnson take the land and its appurtenances they will be bound to give or pay unto each of the girls (to wit) Elizabeth, Henrietta, Polly and Susannah the sum of $130.99 1/3 to each - to pay unto David $184.79 1/3 & also to pay unto the children of Levi Sixty Five dollars twenty cents. And lastly as to all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate goods and chattels of what kind or nature soever I give and bequeath the same to my said beloved wife Nancy Johnson whom I hereby appoint sole executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this the seventh of Sept. A.D. 1825. David Johnson"
